Andrea Anastasio. Binary Codex
A philosophical-orientalist, self-taught designer and artist, Andrea Anastasio has spent his life culturally and physically between Italy and India. From the two countries he has taken production methods and assimilated cultural references over time, often integrating their matrices and linguistic codes. His work - reviewed in this book for the exhibition "Binary Codex", curated by Domitilla Dardi and held at the Italian Embassy in New Delhi between February and April 2022 - offers a dual narrative, where the dialogue takes place on multiple levels: between design and art, between mass-produced and handcrafted products, between industry and art installation, between Italy and India.
Andrea Anastasio's poetics, centred on the need to generate multiplicity of meaning and content, is explored in these pages through photographic sections presenting his works - from lamps to ceramics, from installations to vases - and in-depth textual analysis. Conversations with the artist - with Domitilla Dardi and Alessandro Rabottini - alternate with texts by Andrea Branzi, Leonardo Caffo, Emanuele Coccia, Beppe Finessi, Letizia Muratori, Cristina Miglio and Raffaele Torella, who capture different aspects of Anastasio's multifaceted work each time.
